Motor vehicle renewal online
Department of Motor Vehicles
Renew a registration
You need to renew your registration before it expires. Your new registration documents will arrive in the mail in about 10 days. Renewing early will not change the new expiration date for your new registration. Members of the Armed Forces may have more time to renew.
- is suspended or revoked
- is expired for more than 1 year 1
- has not been inspected in the past 12 months
- your registration (plate) number what is this?
- your registration class what is this?
- the last name of the person on the registration (or business name)
- a credit or pinless debit card for payment
Mail the bottom part of your registration renewal notice (MV-3 or OP-3) to the address listed on the notice. Include a personal check or money order payable to ‘Commissioner of Motor Vehicles’ for the fee.
If you don’t have your MV-3 or OP-3, use the Application for Duplicate / Renewal Registration (pdf) (MV-82D). If you do not know the correct amount to renew, send a check payable to ‘Commissioner of Motor Vehicles’, but do not write the amount.
