How to Renew your Vehicle’s Registration

Vehicle renewals can be completed online, by fax or mail, or in person at a Motor Registration Office.

Renewing your vehicle online is simple and will save you time and money. Motor Registration Division offers a discount for online renewal for most vehicles.

You can also renew by mail, fax, or in-person. If renewing by mail please make cheque or money order payable to “The Newfoundland Exchequer” or submit the Credit Card Payment information on the registration document.

Please note: If you require a change of address you must make this request in person at a Motor Registration Division office and provide valid proof of your current address, or submit the request, including valid supporting documents, by email at: [email protected]

Vehicle Registration Renewal Notifications

Effective April 2018, Motor Registration Division is going paperless. This means that vehicle renewal notifications will no longer be sent by mail. To receive email reminder notifications, please update your email address online here.

Vehicle registrations expire the last day of the month shown on the registration document. Your vehicle can be renewed before or on this date online, by fax or mail, or in person at a Motor Registration Division office.

Required Renewal Information

When you renew online you will need to:

If you choose to renew in person or by mail or fax you will need to provide your insurance company name and policy number on the back side of your registration document. The registered owner must also sign the insurance declaration. We cannot process the registration renewal without this information. Trailers do not require insurance information, but do require the signature of the registered owner on the renewal application.

If you choose to renew in-person, you will also be required to provide valid photo identification.

Registering a Vehicle with Outstanding Traffic Fines or Other Monies Owed to Government

All fines or any other monies owing must be paid prior to processing of the renewal application. These additional fees will be included in your registration renewal application.

Vehicle Inspection Requirements for Registration Renewals

Inspection certificates are not required to be submitted as part of the renewal process.

Where to Renew

Online Vehicle Registration Renewal

You may visit in person, go to the eservices website, or mail your application to, the nearest Motor Registration office in your area. Please see our office locations and hours of service.

You may pay at any bank or credit union. All applications must be completed prior to presentation at the bank or credit union. Registrations paid at banks are valid for 40 days from date of payment. Keep all portions returned to you by the bank with your previous vehicle permit until your permanent registration and stickers are received.
